Return to Full Contact Rugby
After almost 16 months without full contact rugby, players in the community game* can return to scrums and mauls in training from 19 July. Full contact friendlies can start from 7 August for clubs that wish and for players who feel physically and technically ready. * For Age Grade Players (Under 18's), this should take into account 'summer activity guidance', as relevant.
Clubs, coaches and players should follow all return to scrummaging and maul guidance which includes an incremental approach in training before match play. More information.
However, we would like to remind all players and coaches of one important measure that has not yet changed. Test and Trace remains in place at least until 18 August, when further government guidance will be available.
It is anticipated that there will inevitably be a rise in cases of Covid-19 as measures relax. We must therefore manage any risks as best we can by remaining vigilant, supporting the vaccination effort and reminding everyone to self-isolate if they have a positive Covid test or are instructed to do so by Test & Trace.
It is imperative that players understand the importance of not playing or training if they are symptomatic because of the transmission risk. Also, from a Player Welfare point, there are the potential health risks of exercising when suffering from a viral illness.
Please remember that the symptoms for the Delta variant are broader than the original classic three symptoms of a cough, a high temperature or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste. Symptoms can also include, but are not limited to headaches, a sore throat, a runny nose.
