We are excited to announce some news regarding next season, 2023/2024.
As a lot of players and members will know, Glenn Southwell will be stepping down as our 1st Mens XV Head Coach at the end of this season. As a Club we would like to thank Glenn for his hard work, loyalty, and commitment over many years.
Due to this, we are pleased to announce that there will be a brand-new coaching team in place for the 1st XV for next season. Jack Cosgrove will become Head Coach, with specific responsibility for the Forwards. Tyler Price will re-join us as a player/coach, with specific responsibility for the Backs/Attack.
Both Jack and Tyler are home grown Barkers' boys, coming through our Mini & Juniors then going on to play at a professional level. They are both highly qualified coaches who will bring a fresh, new approach to the team.
Jack said "I'm really excited for next season. This season has been tough so we will need to work hard to retain all current players, provide a strong pathway for older Colts into senior rugby as well as attracting outside talent - I'm confident that we can do this. I’m also pleased that Paul Holmes is continuing as Team Manager which is great news as he does an excellent job."
Tyler said "I am delighted to be re-joining Barkers but this time I’ll be lacing my boots up as Backs/Attack Coach. Barkers’ Butts has played a huge role in my rugby journey; from starting at the age of six on Sunday morning with my dad as the coach to representing the Men’s 1st XV. In between that I have been lucky enough to play Rugby in New Zealand, Australia, and the National Leagues.
My rugby career has given me so much, from being awarded a Rugby scholarship to attend university, winning the Midlands Premier division with Birmingham & Solihull to now coaching in the highly successful Warwickshire U18’s programme. However, some of my fondest rugby moments have come in the famous blue and gold jersey and I now want to make new memories, but this time also from the side lines. I am ready to use my experiences in rugby and the lessons I have been taught by the amazing coaches I have played under to help get Barkers back where they belong. This is an incredibly exciting project to be a part of and I can’t wait to get started!"
Dean Williams, Club Chairman added "The appointment of Jack and Tyler is great news for the whole club and as a committee, we will support them in any way we can." Dean added "As well as thanking Glenn, we would also like to thank Joe Lane and Rich Welding who, alongside Glenn and Jack, have also been part of the coaching team this season."
