Barkers Butts RFC
Tamworth RUFC

Sunday found the 16’s at home to Tamworth

A crisp morning but conditions underfoot perfect for rugby

So the game began and for the first 12 mins Tamworth defended for their lives thwarting attack after attack sometimes legally other times not so but Barkers were unable to cross the try line Then on 13 mins they score on first attack

A needless penalty given away in a good position put the Butts on the back foot , from the resulting pressure Tamworth forced themselves over to score

0-5

This was a catalyst for Tamworth to take control of the game and Barkers to have a spell of defensive duties which the most part the performed very well and kept Tamworth at bay but on 25 mins a bout of pressure leading to a lineout gave Tamworth their second score, from a drive close to the line and the try was scored

0-10

HT

The chat at HT was all about looking after the ball and adding some zip to the play

Barkers began the second half on the front foot and were rewarded after a period of pressure by a close pick up and go try by Tom Jeffrey’s

5-10

Unfortunately if that’s a was to be the start of the recovery Tamworth had other ideas and virtually from the kick receive scored their 3rd try of the game again from indiscipline and a penalty award close to the line leading to a pick and go to go over for the converted score

5-17

As much as Barkers tried to get back into the game , it just didn’t happen . Poor ball retention, the penalty count, turn overs , dropped passes when space was there all contrived to a game which was there for the taking and just didn’t happen.

Still lots to be happy about but lots still to be worked on

Thanks to all for the support on a cold day

MOM Jack & Ollie

But more than a few put their hands up , well done
