Barkers Butts RFC

So the 2019/20 season begins and now we are U16’s
First game at home we welcomed Market Bosworth
A good day to play rugby and on the first team pitch too so a fast open game on this big pitch was expected
With the ball in Freddie Painters hands the game began , and 3 seconds later Alfie Griffin introduced himself to MB with a crunching hit which set of the chain of events leading to first score within 3 minutes
Pressure and hit ups and on the line up stepped Freddie to pick up at the base and go over - he later told me he tripped over and scored 😂
Luke Linton adding the extras
7-0
Things got even better as a dominant forward performance putting pressure on MB defence giving the back line good ball to run at MB backs
From an attacking scrum award came the second score
A passing move saw George Parnell enter the line and he showed what pace he has by burning off the MB defence to score out wide
Up stepped Luke and as calm as you like slots the conversion
14-0
MB then woke up and got they’re close game together and were rewarded with two converted scores to tie up the scoreboard
With the half coming to an end MB were on the offensive and were unlucky not to go into the break up
HT 14-14
The coaches at HT wanted a step up in the pressure and intensity and the captain asking for more effort
And the second half began
The forwards with ears still ringing took the ball up from the kick off. Out came the ball and under intense pressure sent the ball out to Sam Mikhael who then pulled out an audacious piece of skill to baboozal the MB defender go round him and go more than half the pitch to score
19-14
The confidence in the group physically rose and a glut of try’s followed
George Parnell recovering a thru kick , the ball went thru the backs hands Tom Canning put in a chip kick which Sam Mikhael took and off he went , with Paddy Heffernan in support . With the MB chasing back Sam passed to Paddy who then committing the last defender passed back to Sam who finished it off
24-14
Good pressure, a George run , offload to Ollie who continued the forward run before a pass to Byron Brown to send him in unopposed
Paddy converting
31-14
From more pressure, hands to Callum Lloyd (on debut) saw him set the ruck
Tom Jeffrey’s in the run and a smart offload in the tackle to Rory Gallagher who still had a bit of work to do saw him power to the line
36-14
Back came MB , from self created pressure caused by a missed line out to score
36-21
But ack came the 16’s , from a defensive scrum Ethan Spandley made a crunching hit , one of many he and the back row made , causing a turn over , quick offloading to the backs saw the ball in Charlie Gaut’s hands and he showed the MB defence a clean pair of heels to score with Freddie converting
43-21
The final score belonged to Freddie, a scrum award in the MB 22 should of led to an attacking move but the scrum was lost , however, the ball was kicked away and Freddie gathered it up and going from 0 to 60 in a micro second burnt the defence to score and duly convert his own score
FT 50-21
An entertaining game with lots to enthuse about
A few things to work on but a good test of the players fitness and effort
